Ch-ch-ch-ch changes

Ladies and gentlemen, Mr. David Bowie! I thought he was appropriate for this post, and what made me think of him was because I emailed my sister a link to a clutch I was looking at online, and she said it was a little too David Bowie for her tastes.  (You decide! Let me know in the comments!) (Also, when I first watched this video, I thought David Bowie was dressed like a pirate.  He's not...or is he??)

Anyway, back to the point of today's post! I've been bumping up against Blogger/Google's 1 MB limit on photos. (I'm sure this has nothing to do with my posting a zillion photos of our honeymoon.  Nope, nothing at all!) Instead of never posting a photo again (or paying Google $), I'm moving the blog! Yep, the husband is very techno-savvy and already owns domains/whatchamacalits so if we're already paying the money, we might as well use the space, right? Right.

So, without further adieu...please visit me at the new blog, The Adventure Continues! Remember to change your bookmarks, feed settings/Google Reader, and if you currently subscribe by email - please re-subscribe at the new site.  I figure a change is appropriate as I started out as a wedding blogger, and have morphed into a lifestyle/whatever strikes my fancy/this is my life blog.  If I've blogged about anything in the past that you want to hear more about, please leave me a comment and I'll see what I can do! I've found such an awesome and supportive community while blogging, and I want to continue that over at the new blog.

I'll post some reminders on this blog from time to time, but generally I'll be living it up at the new site! (Which is also on WordPress - if you've happily changed from Blogger to WordPress, I'd love any pointers you can give me! It seems a little complicated so far...) I plan to leave this blog as is, and I'm sure I'll refer back to old posts when I get going on my wedding recaps.  I may even try and import the old blog over, but that seems a bit time-consuming and beyond my current WordPress skill set, so we'll see what happens.

Thanks for reading here, and I hope to see you at the new site!

For Realsies, This Time!

Guess what, friends? I finally got the email from our wedding photographer that our album will be done next week!! Yay! You know what this means, right???

WEDDING RECAPS!! Of course, I'll be getting the DVD of images right at the busiest time of year, with Thanksgiving and Christmas coming up...but I am so excited to do recaps I'm pretty confident I'll make it a top priority!! (And can you believe we're less than TWO weeks away from Thanksgiving? I sure can't!)

Have an awesome weekend everyone!

Not cool, November.

NOT COOL.  I refuse to shovel on principle alone.

My heart goes out to those in NY and NJ impacted by Hurricane Sandy who now have to deal with SNOW! Don't forget, you can still help by making donations to the American Red Cross (click here for their website).

After making it through Hurricane Sandy last week which brought a fair amount of rain to our area, we now have yet another storm making its way towards Boston - a nor'easter.  I never really knew what these storms were until I moved to New England, and now I know they mean rainboots and foul weather gear! Umbrellas become useless in the wind, and sometimes it seems like rain is falling up considering how soaked you get if you make the mistake of going outside!

coastal flooding caused by a nor'easter - NOAA

And now, the forecasters are saying the most dreaded word of the fall...SNOW! Ewwwww.  I am not ready.

Something tells me it is going to be a LONG six weeks until my Christmas vacation in Maui...

Hurricane Update 2!

I'm happy to say we made it through Hurricane Sandy just fine! We never lost power, though it did flicker from time to time.  And we got more water in our basement than we expected too - the basement isn't finished, so it's not that big of a deal - but I think at some point we'll probably be investing in a sump pump.

The tree in front of our house did not lose nearly as many leaves as we expected, and other than our neighbor's fence falling down, Sandy wasn't much in our neighborhood.  It really seemed to vary town-by-town - and we're lucky as we don't live anywhere near the water.  There's definitely a lot of flooding in the coastal areas!

And New Jersey and lower NYC is just underwater! My sister lives on the Upper East Side and has been keeping me posted - she's lucky in that she never lost power.  It sounds like the city has come to a grinding halt, though! Hopefully you stayed safe and dry during Sandy!

Hurricane Update!

Nothing much to report yet! And hopefully there won't be much to report in general after this storm is over.  Boston is officially shutting down public transit at 2 pm, which makes me really happy that my office just closed outright - anyone who had to go to work, I'm guessing, is probably starting to get ready to go home now.

While it's been raining most of the day, it's been a lighter rain.  We've had some wind gusts, but this is only the outer bands of the storm - since it isn't making landfall until tonight, I think the worst of the rain and wind is yet to come.  Which considering our neighbor's fence is already bending over into our yard - that fence might not last the storm! Also, we're keeping a close eye on our neighbor's yard across the street as she chose not to follow any advice about moving things out of your yard - I expect her stuff to be scattered up and down the street by the end of the storm!

And the one casualty so far of the storm - while I brought in my birdfeeder, I thought my squirrel guard would be OK as it was duct-taped to the pole.  Guess not, as we found it in the yard! In the meantime, we're bunkered down nice and cozy in the house.  We're in great shape unless we lose power, and then we're more likely to be in cranky shape :)

We're Ready!

You should really hit play on this before reading any further...

Oh yeah, we're probably going to get rocked by Hurricane Sandy tomorrow! Now as we're in Boston we're lucky enough to avoid a direct hit, but nonetheless they are predicting up to 4 inches of rain and hurricane-force winds for Monday and Tuesday.  Things are looking serious enough that school is cancelled and both of our offices are closed, so we won't have to venture out on the roads.  We're also decently well-prepared: we stocked up on lots of food and water; cleared out the basement where we tend to get water after big storms; and we even put all of our candles, batteries, and flashlights in a central location so we know where to find everything should we lose power.

Most importantly, we carved our Halloween pumpkins!! We had the news on while we were carving, and Gene was like, um, maybe carving pumpkins isn't really preparing for the storm? HA! Silly boy.  I carved the ridiculously labor intensive haunted castle on the left, while Gene made the scary face on the right.  Another important storm prep item: we have plenty of Halloween candy!! That will definitely tide us over in case of serious emergency (there's nothing chocolate and some wine can't fix, right?).

If you'll be impacted by Sandy, stay safe! I'll keep you posted on things in Boston!

Kudos to Kitchenaid!

I finished out part of our Crate and Barrel wedding registry back in June when I ordered a wedding gift for another friend.  I was dying to replace my crappy blender, so I splurged and bought this beauty:

The very lovely Kitchenaid 5 Speed Metallic Blender from Crate & Barrel
As someone who has never spent more than $50 on a blender, I was VERY excited to buy this! And I was very happy with my purchase until recently...when Gene went on a smoothie bender! Yes, the man became obsessed with smoothies and adding things like soymilk and ridiculously expensive juice.  Blargh! I'll stick with my yogurt and fruit smoothies, thanks so much!
Anyway, the more he used the blender, the more often it began to leak out the bottom while blending! Yes, the smoothie bender came to an abrupt halt with much cursing and mess on our kitchen counter.  When more cursing happened last night with half the smoothie ending up on the counter, I finally decided to look on Kitchenaid's website to see what could be done.  I sent an email to their support folks and described what the problem was, and they emailed me back promptly this morning, letting me know that they were shipping me a new blender pitcher! (Now this model is spiffy and one piece, so the blade is in the bottom of the pitcher with the machinery to turn the blade down in the non-pitcher base).
Hopefully we just ended up with a dud pitcher/blade assembly and the new pitcher will take care of the problem.  Regardless, I am very impressed with Kitchenaid's customer service! I will also keep you posted on whether this solves the problem.
In the meantime, have any good smoothie recipes? Or blender recipes in general? I'm always looking for fun milkshake ideas!
