The Honeymoon: Paris - Day Two

After such a long first day, we decided to sleep in a bit on Thursday and get a later start.  We decided to head over to Sacre Coeur, and spend the afternoon touring the Basilica and Montmartre.

The view of the Basilica

It's really a gorgeous church!

Wait, how many more stairs do we have to go?

The stairs are totally worth it! A view of Paris.

We toured the inside of the Basilica and the crypt underneath, which had several chapels.

A view of Montmartre, right near the Basilica

Gene enjoyed the cafe named after him!

And he made this face every time he got a croissant :) They really were delicious!

A very yummy bakery window!

The hot dogs might have looked weird...but were quite tasty!

Love the blue shutters and red flowers.

I loved the sign

I loved that the bus stops told you how long until the bus came! Boston could use that...

After a long hot afternoon...beer was in order! This was the only beer we drank on the entire honeymoon, funny enough! We opted for wine most of the time.

One of the cooler Metro signs!

We didn't go to the Moulin Rouge, but noted the busloads of tourists
being dropped off for shows!

I slowly but surely perfected my self-portrait skills!

After our afternoon wandering around Montmartre (where we picked up some cool art), we headed back towards the Arc de Triomphe for dinner.  And this next picture is not for the squeamish...Gene likes snails, so of course he had to order them while in Paris!

EWWWW.  I did NOT eat that.

But Gene did! And LOVED it!

Since we were already near the Arc de Triomphe, we decided to head over there to watch sunset, and get a view of the Eiffel Tower when it lit up at 10 p.m.  I have to say, one of the most confusing things about Paris was the fact that the sun didn't set until 9:30 p.m. each night!! Our body clocks were so off on this trip!!

The side of the Arch.  The carvings are amazing!

A small glimpse of the Eiffel Tower.

The Arch and sunset!

I loved the lights in this photo.

After enjoying the sparkly show that the Tower put on at 10 p.m., we headed back to our hotel for some rest and to plan out our two remaining days in the City of Lights!
